Emma Grubb United Kingdom Local time: 16:02 Member (2010) German to English + ... Parking nearby? | May 9, 2010 |
Can anyone tell me whether there is any parking nearby? I'm wondering whether to drive or whether it might be easier for me to get the train.
Pernille Chapman United Kingdom Local time: 16:02 Member (2004) English to Danish + ... Plenty of free parking... | May 9, 2010 |
I've sometimes taken my car in, and with a bit of luck you might actually get parked in Cumberland street itself. Otherwise, there are lots of spaces in the surrounding streets which are free at that time of night. But if you want to be green, the train station (Waverley) is less than 10 minutes away

Hi Pernille,

Hi Lisa,
Hopefully we will set another date quite soon, it's very promising that so many people have signed up this time. Keep an eye on the powwow page for the next one! Or, if you want to make sure you don't miss out, sign up for this one (setting your attendance status to "no") and the organiser will send you a message for next time.
Best wishes,
Becky. | | |
Pernille Chapman United Kingdom Local time: 16:02 Member (2004) English to Danish + ... Room for one more? | May 19, 2010 |
Hi Rebecca,
I'll be bringing a friend who's not a ProZ member (yet!) Thought I'd let you know in case the pub is struggling to fit us all in. What a great response so far
Rebecca Hendry United Kingdom Local time: 16:02 Member (2005) Spanish to English + ... Space reserved! | May 19, 2010 |
Hello all,
I popped into the Cumberland today and reserved some "space" - if as many of us come as have signed up then we won't all be able to get round a table anyway, and it will be a new attendance record!
Anyway, tomorrow night we will be sharing the pub with a Spanish group and a book group, it's a popular venue! If you don't know anyone, ask at the bar for the translators' meeting and they should be able to point you in the right direction. A lot of us have photos so... See more Hello all,

I'll be there for 8 pm so look out for me if you can't see anyone else.
Looking forward to it! ▲ Collapse
Rebekka Groß (X) Local time: 16:02 English to German probably won't make it after all | May 20, 2010 |
Hi everyone
I am soooo disappointed but I'm probably not going to be able to join you tonight after all. Work's been crazy the last few weeks and I can hardly keep my eyes open even now at 5 pm. A nap might help but then I wouldn't ge finished what I need to do. However, without the nap, I'll not be fit to go out. *grrrrr* Vicious circle. Have fun and hope to see you another time. (Still not giving up hope completely about tonight, though.)

Thank you for arranging the meeting last night, Becky - I really enjoyed it. It was great to see familiar faces and meet so many new people! It always amazes me how many translators there are in Edinburgh. I'm looking forward to the next one already!
Rebecca Hendry United Kingdom Local time: 16:02 Member (2005) Spanish to English + ... What a great turnout! | May 21, 2010 |
Thank you everyone for coming last night, and like Fiona, I'm amazed at how many translators there are here! It was fabulous to see so many new faces, and I hope we can keep organising these events on a regular basis.

I think, and a few people who I asked agreed, that organising a powwow every 2-3 months would be the best way to ensure that the numbers are as good as last night. If anyone has any ideas about alternative venues then please suggest them! The Cumberland is great in winter when it's cosy, but last night it was VERY hot and busy, so somewhere else might be better.
Looking forward to the next one!

Susan McDonald France Local time: 17:02 Member (2006) French to English + ... So sorry to have missed my first Stammtisch! | May 21, 2010 |
Hi there
I am really sorry that I couldn't attend last night - I've been nursing a rather nasty chest lurgy so didn't want to pass it on. I definitely would like to come to the next one though, so please keep me posted.
Glad it went so well!
Cheers

Marion Lurf United Kingdom Local time: 16:02 English to German + ...
Hello everybody!
Becky, in response to your email, holding another powwow in September is a great idea. My preferred dates would either be Wednesday the 8th or the 22nd (I'm not sure I can manage Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I won't be in Edinburgh in the last week of September because I'm going to Prague a bit earlier).
Hope you're enjoying the festival summer in Edinburgh and to see you all soon, Marion

Hi Becky,
You may want to try Biblos on Chamber St as a venue. We had Erasmus soc. meetings there and if there's a few of you they'll give you free food, as well as space on the mezzanine!
availability | Aug 16, 2010 |
Hi Becky, Another meeting sounds great. I am away beginning of September so my prefered day would be Tuesday 21st Wednesday 22nd Tuesday 28th Thursday 30th
Thanks, Ely | | |
Sarah Magee United Kingdom Local time: 16:02 Spanish to English + ... I'm up for it! | Aug 22, 2010 |
Hi Guys,
I'm up for another meeting, the last one was good.
I am happy with any venue in Edinburgh. The Cumberland is fine. One other suggestion is the Chanter on Bread St (it is nothing special, but you can reserve seating).
I have had a look in my diary and any week night in September currently suits me. (Becky, I know I said to you some dates that did not suit, but that was because I thought I was going on holiday, and now I am not).
