OECD Maintainer Code

Best Source of Information
The best source of information for a variety is the person(s) or organisation(s) responsible for the maintenance of the variety as designated by the *maintainer code* but access to the maintainer should normally be through your National Designated Authority.
*Maintainer Code*
The *maintainer code* is a unique alpha-numeric code attributed to each maintainer by the National Designated Authority. The list of maintainers is compiled from the individual countries’ lists and comprises the names and addresses, including the country, of each maintainer.

For this purpose the identified varieties shall need to be updated with the following information:
a. Confirmation of Maintainer for each variety with their address
...
d. Proposing country code, *maintainer code*, synonyms for the varieties
e. Details of official varietal description for the identified varieties.

7.3 A maintainer can only maintain a variety in the UK, another Member State or in a Third Country referred to in Council Decision 97/788/EC (as amended) on the equivalence of checks on practices for the maintenance of varieties carried out in third countries.
7.4 The maintainer must keep records of all the generations of the varieties maintained and produce these for inspection if requested by the National Authorities. The maintainer must also allow authorised officers to inspect or examine any plants, plant material or records that may be required to ensure compliance with the Regulations and provide samples to the National Authorities on request.
