English term

anti-skid system

GBK English to Japanese Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Definition from Motor Era:
(ASBS) A computer controlled automotive device which senses when one or more of the wheels are locking up during braking. It eases up on the amount of Hydraulic pressure to that wheel. It must be remembered that a wheel cannot be steered unless it is rolling; so if the wheel is locked up, there is no steering control. By the use of electronic Computers, the brakes rapidly alternate from full power to none so that both maximum braking and maximum steering control is allowed.
Example sentences:
The available adhesion values under extreme conditions are less than those defined in the UIC 541-05 document. This is why, in most cases, anti-skid systems are not designed for specified operation in conditions other than those defined in this document. (Faiveley Transport)
A car anti-skid protection system that too few Britons are using has been displayed by motor racing star Lewis Hamilton. (Skid Car System)
I’ve never heard of an “anti-skid system” failing on a plane, but it seems to be the equivalent of anti-lock brakes. (Gessel On)
