"Forgive you! You don't know what you are talking about. Let me pass. It depends upon--a good deal whether I ever forgive you."

Discussion

Fuad Yahya Aug 2, 2008:
Are you sure of the internal punctuation in the last sentence? What is that dash doing in there? Could be a series of dots instead? Are there other punctuation marks in the sentence?

She broke the sentence, because she was not willing to reveal upon what "it depended".

I don't think she would reveal herself to the young man in this way, see these links:

Normally we would reverse the word order and say, It depends, a good deal, upon whether ...

This means to a large extent

Mr. Fuad has a good point - Depending on the punctuation the sentence could also mean that the person who is speaking won't forgive the other person unless they offer them a good deal for something. I still think, however, that this most likely means "to a large extent". You will have to judge the context to make the final call.

صفقة جيدة

From the given context and the sentence structure, it looks the term "a good deal" carries the literal rather than the figuritive meaning.
