Danish term

busruten med vognmanden

Danish to English Law/Patents Law (general) day care regulations
Gentleman travelling to the day care centre:
xx benytter busruten med vognmanden og udgifterne hertil betales af vaerkstedet.
Is this just a way of saying 'xx takes the bus to the day care centre (yes - vaerkstedet is yet another word for it in this document unless I'm mistaken), or does is it mean something additional to that?
Advice appreciated!
Thanks, Helen

Thanks - I have translated Vaerkstedet as Workshop anyway. I was just trying to give an idea of the number of terms involved concerning this 'tilbud', in case it made a difference to the possible translation of 'tilbud'. I have a feeling that 'tilbud' is also used to mean 'offer', as it is also mentioned regarding this possible special employment to keep up the skills that the gentleman has learned.
Non-ProZ.com Feb 20, 2005:
Thanks for that note, Dan. Now I understand that one! :)
Dan Schioenning Larsen Feb 20, 2005:
Not an answer to this question, but I would think that vrkstedet refers to a "beskyttet vrksted" which is a kind of protected workplace for mentally handicapped people. It can double as a "day care center" with specially trained leaders.

public bus route

I'd say that the focus is not on the man or his business but on the fact that it is a public transport that is refunded (or paid directly to the bus company) by the day care centre/home that runs the workshop.

\"vognmand\" would be private and would also indicate to me that we are far out in the province when it is used for a bus company. Since it\'s a route, the bus company would have a concession to serve a public route. Hence public transport. All right, someone can possibly dream up a different scenario, and it\'s not the transport itself that is focused on here.
Peer comment(s):

agree Kenneth Svendsen : Without further knowledge of the specific context (e.g. transportation being private) I'd have to agree on this one.

the bus route and carrier/driver

'vognmand' is usually a carrier but perhaps in your context the driver

a tilbud in this context is usually a tender
Peer comment(s):

agree Christine Andersen : the driver, or where payments are concerned, possibly the operator of the bus route (which is not necessarily the local authority)

goes by bus

Essensen må være, at vedkommende tager bussen til børnehaven. Vognmanden som sådan er irrelevant formentlig. Som jeg forstår det, er bilen på værksted ??, hvor værkstedet betaler udgiften til bustransporten?

take the privat bus/van route with driver

Here, the bus is a small (private) bus or minivan - sometimes even operated by a taxi company, and the vognmand is the driver of that van. I would be careful about translating vaerksted as day care centre, unless you know that the workshop is indeed located at the centre.
