Danish term

fritlagte søsten

Danish to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
Context: Bebyggelsen er opført i betonelementer med fritlagte søsten i år 1988.

Obviously a building material (sea gravel?), but what does "fritlagte" mean here?

neutral Dana Sackett Lössl : Sorry, Suzanne, I hadn't seen you had suggested aggregate. I think it is important to mention stone or gravel, however, as aggregate is many things...

Danish term (edited): fritlagte ssten

uncovered, untreated

L&H gives 'free, uncover' for fritlægge

and 'marine rubble' for søsten

The stones could quite well be larger than gravel, more like shingle or large, rounded pebbles if they were used as building material.

They would probably give a more rustic effect between the concrete elements, and add character to the building.

sea gravel aggregate

I think this is a concret block with aggregate on the outer (visible) surface. See the following link for a trash can made of the type of material I think they mean: http://www.godawn.com/products_receptacles_aggregate.asp
It is sometimes used in commercial/industrial buildings.
