Rundganglenkung

German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Eine Lenkungsart bei Bau-/Baggerfahrzeugen. Ich finde zwar 100 Google-Treffer, aber nichts, wie dies auf Englisch heißt.

Björn Vrooman May 20, 2016:
Another two links (difference to crab steering) "The Titan is probably one of the most unique pieces of equipment on the market with its ability to rotate the deck 180 degrees, snug up to most buildings with the three types of steering capabilities (2/4WD & Crab) allowing you to a number of projects right off the deck."

"Up position: normal 4 wheel steering. Rear wheels turn in the opposite direction as the front wheels, thus helping to turn the crawler. To do this, take the aileron channel, invert it and send it to the rudder channel.

Down position: crab steering. Rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels, thus the car doesn't turn, it crabs. This helps on side hills. To do this, take the aileron channel and send it to the rudder channel."

So what's wrong with using 4WS here?

@Friedrich Rundganglenkung:

What's the issue with 4WS? That's from the 1980's:

And one of the John Deere models in action:

All references show the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction.

coordinated steer(ing mode)

... wenn man die Möglichkeit haben möchte, die Rundgang- von der Hundeganglenkung (beides Allradlenkverfahren) zu unterscheiden.
Einfach mal coordinated steer und crab steer zusammen googlen.

1. No, in respect to terminology, they are not, but thank you very much for explaining my answer to me ;-)
2. Not always the best technique to create new (misleading) names for known concepts, imho.
Note from asker:
Thank you, but all 4-wheel steering modes are coordinated steering modes. In "Rundganglenkung" the front and rear wheels are turned in opposite directions, contrary to crab steering where all wheels are turned in the same direction. I will just call this "circular steering".

all-wheel steering

Note from asker:
Thank you, but sorry, "Rundganglenkung" is a type of all-wheel steering.

articulated steering

Coordinated steering is also used, but not nearly as often. All-wheel drive functions include front-wheel, rear-wheel, all-wheel, crab and articulated steering modes.
Note from asker:
Thank you, but "articulated steering" requires that the vehicle is split, which is not the case here. In "Rundganglenkung" the front and rear wheels are turned in opposite directions, contrary to crab steering where all wheels are turned in the same direction.
