I don’t use AI for my writing per se, but I do find it useful for resolving undefined abbreviations/acronyms that often crop up in my translations.
It is also handy for specific queries about certain things. For example, this weekend I was sent an urgent translation of an article (about AI use in education, as it happens) due tomorrow. The article will be published in a Journal that follows APA guidelines, and I simply wanted to check a couple of details. After trying unsuccessfully to ... I used it at first and left it because of the well-known hallucinations and fabricated sources. Some Google AI Overviews have been useful, but I’m old so I’d rather get my brain working even if it takes longer…

I recently used it to draft a letter of complaint because an online order I had placed failed to be delivered even after several attempts to communicate with some useless customer service (either bots or humans without sufficient authority to do anything about the problem). I was angry but didn't want to spend any more of my time on this idiotic problem, so I had AI write the letter. And the best thing: it worked, I got refunded!

I mainly use it for research, not writing. I realized that if someone is skilled with AI, they can complete research that would normally take a long time in a much shorter time.

For example, an application to the Greek tax authorities based on the EU's GDPR data protection legislation, asking for incorrect information to be deleted. ChatGPT looked up the relevant regulations, including the applicable articles and paragraphs, and produced in minutes a draft document that it would have take...
