McAfee Site Advisor is another way of checking whether it is safe to open a web link or not. It is free from [url removed]
(there is a more elaborate version which you have to pay for, but the free one seems quite adequate to me).

Should I not open these pages, or add the 'www' after the 'http' bit as suggested? They are University websites, so feel they should be OK
