There was a CEO of a telecommunication company called Ahmed. Ahmed had two young sons. One day Ahmed was in another country, that’s 10 hours away by plane from his home, for a business conference. After a long day of meetings, Ahmed came back to his hotel room and decided to rest as he watched the news.
...
Ahmed trembled while watching the news and could not believe his eyes, but as he froze there the news reporter listed the places that had collapsed, and that included the school where his kids went to. After managing to control his emotions, Ahmed called his kids hoping they would pick it, but, unfortunately, they did not. He called again and again, but to no avail. So Ahmed booked the earliest flight he could get, which departed at midnight, and headed back to his country.
…
Ahmed finally reached to the wreckage of the school. How the wreckage looked like assured him that the kids were dead. He fell on his knees and started weeping and crying loudly covering his head with the dust of the wreckage. His heart sunk in him, and he lost all the remaining fragments of hope he had in his kids’ survival. He wept and wept for long time until all his energy was sapped. He lied on the rubble as he was carried away by his thoughts about his kids: how he loved them so much, how they drew a true smile on his face every time he looked at them, the quality time he spent with them, and the stories they shared. He then remembered that time when his big son looked at him in the eyes and told him with confidence: “Daddy, you’re my superman. I trust you shall save me whenever I am in danger.” Thinking of that, Ahmed had enough enthusiasm to jump up into the rubble and dig with his hands to search for his kids.
