Source text - Indonesian E-learning adalah salah satu metode penyampaian dalam pembelajaran. E-learning dapat dimanfaatkan pada model sinkron maupun model tak sinkron. Pengembangan e-learning sudah lebih 10 tahun di Indonesia, tetapi sampai saat ini hasilnya belum memuaskan. Keadaan ini tampak dari peringkat kesiapan e-learning Indonesia menduduki posisi 52 dari 60 negara (2003) dan posisi 60 dari 65 negara (2005). Yang menjadi pertanyaan, faktor apa yang menghambat implementasi e-learning di Indonesia? Faktor apa yang perlu diperhatikan dalam pengembangan e-learning?
Terdapat tiga faktor utama yang mempengaruhi kesiapan e-learning, dengan setiap faktor memiliki komponen-komponen kesiapan yaitu: (1) sumber daya; (2) pendidikan; dan (3) lingkungan. Sumber daya, mencakup ketersediaan teknologi (perangkat keras dan lunak) (kesiapan teknologi), kemampuan guru dan siswa (kesiapan sumber daya manusia), dan ketersediaan dana (kesiapan ekonomi). Secara kependidikan, kesiapan mencakup ketersediaan konten pembelajaran (kesiapan isi) dan adanya regulasi tentang e-learning dan standardisasi pedagogi digital (kesiapan edukasional). Secara lingkungan, kesiapan mencakup pengakuan dan penghargaan pimpinan (kesiapan kepemimpinan) dan kesiapan kultural yang tercermin dari pertimbangan bahwa e-learning harus menjadi bagian dari aktivitas kerja sehari-hari dan organisasi harus mau memberi insentif
Studi empiris dan literatur menunjukkan bahwa faktor pendidikan dan lingkungan menjadi kendala utama dalam pengembangan e-learning di Indonesia. Oleh sebab itu pengembangan e-learning di Indonesia harus dilakukan desain ulang, tidak hanya memperhatikan faktor sumber daya saja, tetapi memadukan faktor memadukan dengan pengembangan pendidikan dan lingkungan secara konvergen.
Translation - English E-learning is one of various delivery methods in learning. E-learning can be used as synchronous learning or asynchronous learning. In Indonesia, e-learning development has been around for 10 years, but there have been no satisfactory results. This is shown from the rank of e-learning readiness of Indonesia that is at the position of 52nd of 60 countries (2003) and 60th of 60 countries (2005). The question is what factors hinder the implementation of e-learning in Indonesia? What factors should be considered in e-learning development?
There are four main factors influencing e-learning readiness in which each factor has some readiness components, i.e.: (1) resources; (2) education; and (3) environment. Resources include technology availability (hardware and software) (technological readiness), teachers and students capability (human resources) and funding availability (economic readiness). Educational aspect includes learning content availability (content readiness) and availability of regulation on e-learning and digital pedagogy standardization (educational readiness). Environment aspect includes recognition and appreciation of superior (leadership readiness) and cultural readiness is represented by the fact that e-learning should be part of everyday working activities and organization should give incentives.
Empirical and literature studies show that educational and environmental factors represent the main hindrance in developing e-learning in Indonesia. Therefore, e-learning development in Indonesia should be redesigned, not only by considering resources factors, but also by integrating both factors (educational and environmental) in a convergent way.

This is because they had been my primary clients during my previous freelance translating career. In the past, students (mostly master and doctorate level in universities around Yogyakarta, Indonesia) required me to translate journals and part of text books from various branches of science and engineering, such as economics, management, psychology, information technology, computer science, animal husbandry, information systems, electronics, electrical engineering, agriculture, fishery, medical, and pharmacy, mostly via a well-known translation agency in Yogyakarta, namely, Pujasindo Group. This experience has been very invaluable later in shaping my skill and expertise as a freelance translator.
