Because often enough they provide useful information / thought-provoking comments / good advice. And very occasionally I like to think that my comments may do the same.

And they can be fun too!

Cheers

Cooperation, fun, distraction, useful information (sometimes) Aug 11, 2011

Because I feel more involved in Proz, I can share some opinions and read some useful opinions about our profession.

And like Mary: a bit of fun, distraction, socialization.

Ciao
Susanna

it is the same answer for me.

And I love the proposed answer: "Perfect excuse for procrastination!"

Have a nice day!

Sometimes they raise good discussions on serious topics.

Usually I am procrastinating when I look at the poll.
This is not always a bad thing. When I have stared at a problem for a while, I make some coffee and look at something else for a few minutes. Sometimes a completely unexpected answer comes, or I think of the problem from a different angle when I come back to it.

I may simply vote and move on, or sometimes I ignore the poll and hope the next one is more in

I may simply vote and move on, or sometimes I ignore the poll and hope the next one is more interesting... but I almost always check the poll after checking my mail in the morning!

There are a number of reasons why I partake in these polls - time permitting.
Noni already named two of them. The information obtained from these polls, from your opinions can be quite valuable at times.

They are fun, though sometimes a little on the "silly" side - which is also entertaining. It's not so much procrastination, but rather the taking of an enjoyable break. Socializing is also an important factor.

"See" you at the next poll.

Perfect excuse for procrastination! : can't understand. So no!
For the browniz points earned : Absolutely no. In this regard I am already a very rich person!!
They are fun : That's it! I participate for pure fun. I observed that in most of cases my choice took the first position i.e. most of the persons of the world are agree with me (in the present poll also!). Is it not a great feeling? Every time I feel better after taking part in quick poll. Indeed, quick poll brings a fresh oxygen to the world of our hard work.

You mean I get browniZ for this? Aug 12, 2011

Like Mary, I had no idea! But I do it for fun, and seldom miss a day's poll unless I have connectivity problems (which I often do).

Never thought of it Aug 12, 2011

Self-test. To see whether I belong to opinion minority or to majority. As a matter of fact, I never fell within the leading group, in any poll, nor within the tail. Steady in the middle, range 17-30 percent. It's also funny.
Cheers
