Japanese term

市販タイヤ/市販用タイヤ

Japanese to English Bus/Financial Automotive / Cars & Trucks
I'm translating translating some research on the e-commerce tire market and this term comes up in contrast to 直需タイヤ/直需用タイヤ.

Based on my understanding so far, translating this directly as ″commercial tire″ would be confusing because ″commercial tire″ has a different meaning and can't be used for passenger car tires.

Would it make sense to translate this as ″replacement tire,″ and 直需タイヤ as ″original equipment tire.″ Has anyone ever thought of this problem before?

Thanks a lot.

replacement tyres

I think 'replacement tyre' in contrast to 'original tyre' is perfectly fine.
There are two main markets for tyre manufactures. The major one is the OE market selling tyres to car manufacturers, and the minor one is the retail market selling replacement tyres.

neutral AnitaByrnes : I think the term 'after-market' can be used for 市販. So - 'original tire' and 'after-market tire'

agree Denise Fisher : Yes, I think the term "after-market tire" would be most appropriate in this case. I've worked in the automotive industry for 18 years, and my clients often use the term "after-market tire" for 市販タイヤ.
